I am tired. We are all very tired. The regime is setting fires faster than we can put them out. This, as we know, is by design. They seek to overwhelm. They want surrender.
But why should we give them what they want? They’re bullies, grifters, and sociopaths. They have not earned our respect and cannot command our obedience.
So, take heart and remember these ten things:
This is going to take a while. Take care of yourself. Be kind to yourself.
We cannot put out all the fires. We can only do what we can do. You are enough.
Since (usually) we will not be rewarded by immediately visible results, we must instead focus on doing what is right for its own sake.
Dream big. A time of disorder and collapse is also the time to imagine the order of the world we want to live in. Let’s draw up some plans and build community with intention.
We believe that every human deserves healthcare, housing, food, water, education, leisure, sleep, dignity, and justice. We deserve a society that supports the flourishing of the many — and not just the few. We hold these values and ideals with conviction, without compromise.
Our anger is justified and we can channel that anger into activism. But activism motivated primarily by anger risks burning itself out. Love is a more sustainable, steady-burning fuel. Find motivation in your love of neighbor, of justice, of the country we are building together. Inasmuch as we can, let love lead the fight.
There is strength in numbers. Because autocrats cannot create their deeply unpopular regimes democratically, they require autocracy to succeed. The autocrats are few, and we are many.
There is strength in community. We have each other and we will do this together.
Over time, more and more of these arsonists will get burned by the fires they have set. The regime will weaken themselves.
Through the work we are doing now, we are preparing ourselves. When the regime consumes itself in their self-set fires, our growing movement steps in to begin rebuilding.
Rest. Resist. Rebuild. Repeat.
We can do this. Come join us.
